| This is not a band. This is not a rehearsal. This is a jam. this is five musicians having a spontaneous conversation with their instruments, sometimes in a unified voice and other times individuals shout over the top. This is music allowed to roam off the leash. | ||

We started together a couple years ago; the meetings are just as loosely arranged as the music. Someone feels the need, sends an email or makes a phone call and we struggle down to the cellar to see what we can mix-up. "The Real Book" sets the topic, the drummer sets the tempo and the rest is just allowed to happen. Sometimes it's magic and sometimes there's a train wreck, though, it's always a good time. We've all played professionally, but are not professional musicians. However, we are professionals who make a point of keeping the craft of music in our lives. We are very different people who speak the common language of music. We hold these sessions to reconnect, share some laughs and challenge our vocabularies. This isn't a band looking for gigs. We are musicians exchanging ideas. If you haven't already, think about holding your own "cellar session." Speak in your voice. Share your ideas. |
